ABOUT

This website features photos and architectural drawings of the Dolbeau-Mistassini Theatre, Quebec, Canada, inaugurated on 10 October 2008. The information is intended as a case study for architects, students of architecture, theatre consultants, clients and anyone interested in theatre architecture.

Paul Laurendeau is the design architect of the project. He is here presenting an edited version of the documents that served to build the theatre. Shop drawings from the various subtrades and construction documents released by design professionals are compiled to produce a set of high level presentation drawings, cleaned of technical references and annotations. The drawings have been edited for clarity and aesthetics for educational purposes.

This project seeks to fill a gap on theatre architecture: the lack of a contemporary encyclopedic work or extensive manual with full working drawings of a theatre.

This site is a bridge between a large format book and the actual construction documents of the project. The book will feature all drawings. This site, only a portion, as an introduction to the book.

The project is the first prize winner of an open architectural competition launched in October 2005 by the city of Dolbeau-Mistassini. Paul Laurendeau Architect executed the project in joint venture with Jodoin Lamarre Pratte & Associés Architectes.
